Broderick Sacramento-West Railroad (herein known as BSWRR) is an HO Scale railroad operating in Broderick, California. Currently, we have approximately 340 linear feet of mainline operations, 500 linear feet of rail yard, 38 linear feet of passenger yard, 48 linear feet of locomotive works.
HO scale is 1:87. This means, for every 1 foot in HO, this represents 87 feet in real life. Real Life is Prototype. Doing the math, the 170 feet of mainline track is 14,790 feet in real life. In real life, a mile is 5280 feet, therefore, 14,790 feet would be 2.8 miles. You may double this for total, considering all mainline is dual track.
To give this another perspective, if you look at layout page, the room in bottom center which is 15' 10" long would be 1313.87 feet in HO. That is 0.2488 miles along the one wall (round this off to 1/4 mile).
BSWRR has been in operation since 2001. We have been adding to the layout ever since with no light at the end of the tunnel for completion.
